Adenauer Marks 85th Birthday: West German chancellor Konrad Adenauer celebrates his 85th birthday with a show of stamina amazing in a younger man. After a day that includes family observances, military review, and an hours-long reception line, Adenauer emerges on a balcony still standing, still smiling and still going strong! Lit candles spell out 85 on silver platter. With grandchildren.
