News in Brief: Carnival Preparations The artisans of Viareggio work overtime to complete preparations for the 1960 edition of the traditionally gargantuan, gala pre-Lenten celebration of Mardi Gras. Monster papier-mache puppets and animated caricatures get the finishing touches. Workers paint giant figures, including two huge caricature heads representing President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Nikita Khrushchev.
