News in Brief: Hawaii Volcano Razes Village. Puna Volcano. The worst eruption in a month of flame and thunder. A river of fire overflows natural barrier, and pours down a slope through the village of Kapoho, bringing destruction on a mile-wide front. Smoldering volcano. Danger sign, lava spurting in background. Lava, smoke seem to threaten buildings. Person uses water hose to try to protect a building. Steam clouds rise from the water (presumably where volcanic material has gone into the water).
