Shanghai Refugees The desperate defense of Shanghai came to an end and refugees poured by the thousands into foreign settlements seeking food and shelter. This was a horrible preview of what War was to become. Very upsetting image of crippled refugee crawling down street. Military soldier hits boy with stick (abuse). Food relief, refugees holding out hats and umbrellas trying to catch food being thrown from truck. Tragic. Horror. Starving.
