Nixon In U.S.S.R.
At the opening of the United States Fair in Moscow, Vice President Richard M. Nixon engages Soviet chief Nikita Khrushchev in a free-wheeling debate ranging over nearly every outstanding Soviet-American issue -- unconventional diplomacy that makes world-wide headlines with forthright, hard-hitting discussions of potentially explosive topics. Nixon and Khrushchev tour the site of the fair. Nixon cuts a ribbon (and Nikita applauds him), then looks unsure of what to do with the scissors. Various shots inside of the two looking at exhibits.
The two men go before TV cameras and talk, with translators, in front of the cameras in a very awkward, unusual Cold War exchange. Khrushchev waves "bye bye" to the United States. Handshakes throughout, some smiles and laughs, but tension, too. Lawyer joke.
