Queen Mother & Princess Meet Pope "It was a very affable visit. The conversation was spoken in French. This was Princess Margaret's second audience with a pope. She was received in private audience in 1949 by Pope Pius XII. Following the audience with Pope John XXIII, the queen mother dedicated a statue to the nineteenth-century English poet, Lord Byron, who spent much time in Italy. The statue, a joint gift by British and American nationals in Rome, was unveiled in the Villa Borghese, magnificent public park in the center of the city. The princess visited five churches in two days in addition to visiting the catacombs. In the evening she attended a party in Club Caballa atop an ancient three-story inn over-looking the Tiber River - where Dante, Medieval Italian poet - once frequented." Princess Margaret and companions visit ruins. Queen Mum visits other locations. Various scenics, including water fountains.
