25 Years Ago Today More than 20,000 Americans - all creeds - assemble in Madison Square Garden, N.Y., to denounce the first anniversary of Adolf Hitler's rise to power. It's a bitter demonstration against Nazi tyranny. Large rally. People at podium -- one is Fiorello LaGuardia (?). Crowd applauding. Northern Italy suffers the terrors of four successive avalanches which brought appalling destruction in lives and property. Aftermath only - no avalanches shown. Men shovel lots of snow off of roofs. On the sunnier side of the scene: the world's billiard champions - with Welker Cochrane and Johnny Layton - masters of strategy and precision. They show us what is meant by the word champion. Two men make fancy shots. (This is a kind of table apparently with no pockets.) Spring training: the world champion New York Yankees. With diamond immortals 'iron man' Lou Gehrig, the Sultan of Swat, Babe Ruth himself and Manager Joe McCarthy. Members of press look on as the baseball team trains. Nonsense - the big business with small profits- the six-day bike races. Grueling grinding. With grotesque Runyonesque characters cheering from the sidelines. Indoor men's bicycle race. Competitor getting a shave, another eating a meal. Some falls and wipeouts and crashes.
