Independence. First Sea Trials For Super-carrier The U.S. Navy's newest aircraft carrier Independence starts her first sea trials down New York's East River. Tugboat workers, still on strike, helped the 'Independence' out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and down the river. The carrier clears the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges by tilting its hinged mast. Huge ship. Some views of skyline in background.
