Pope John XXIII Receives Mohammed Reza Pahlevi Pope John XXIII receives Mohammed Reza Pahlevi, Shah of Persia, at the Vatican. A friendly meeting between the Moslem chief of state and the supreme pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church. Wow, the Shah is decked out in military dress and medals. Saluting. Guards in uniform. The Shah and the Pope chat, seem to get along well.
