An estimated 40 persons die when a commuter train races through a half-open drawbridge over Newark Bay to plummet 50 feet into the inky bay, one of the worst tragedies in the New York-New Jersey area in years. One car of the train still hanging from bridge, partly in the water. People on small boats (survivors, perhaps?).
