Sports. Cooper, Gibson Win In National. At Forest Hills, N.Y., the national tennis championships are won by Althea Gibson, in the women's division, and Australia's Ashley Cooper, in each case after some of the most sensational tennis ever seen. For each match, players shake hands before and after. Cooper comes from behind despite a near-crippling leg injury for a stirring triumph. Shows him limping in pain.
