25 years ago today. Highlights from a by-gone day that seems in many ways strange and distant - such as the 'Bonus March' on the capital (Washington DC). But many of the names in the news are familiar, such as Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, who visits the Bonus Marchers... the heavy-weight champion, boxer Primo Carnera, and the Sultan of Swat, Babe Ruth who wins the first all-star baseball game with a home run. 1933 had its own 'miracle mile' too, with Jack Lovelock setting a new 4.07:6 mark. And the weather was just as wild and weird as now without the atom bomb to blame it on: Earthquake on the Pacific coast, snowfall on the Mojave Desert (snow on cactus !) and a soaring heat wave in the east that had Coney Island jammed, and flappers in swimsuits cooling off on cakes [blocks] of ice!
