H-Bomb Warning: We Must Stockpile, President Asserts
Addressing the National Assembly of United Church Women, President Eisenhower speaks on atomic weapons, and what America must do to survive in an age of nuclear fission and fusion. President Eisenhower; "Today we are face to face with the most extraordinary physical development of all times, the application of nuclear fission and nuclear fusion to the world's armaments. These discoveries in the field of science present in themselves no threat to man. Like other scientific developments they are accessible to good or evil use. Depending upon the intent of the individual or group possessing it. Man's greatest scientific achievement therefore cannot yet be made exclusively to serve the advancement of man's welfare and happiness. Instead we are forced to concentrate on building such stores of armaments as can detour any attack against those who want to be free".
