Democrats: Curtain Rises on Chicago Convention
Democrats: Curtain Rises on Chicago Convention Democratic presidential aspirants arrive in the Windy City on convention eve as a wide open race shapes up. Senator Kefauver, Senator Russell and Averill Harriman are among the early arrivals. Large portraits of Democratic presidents, Wilson, FDR, Truman, Andrew Jackson (?). Senator Estes Kefauver and wife descend from plane; then another candidate does the same: Sen. Richard Russell of Georgia. An over-the-top outfit: an Averill Harriman supporter has political buttons of her candidate all over her dress and hat; camera pans from this woman to Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr., who is standing beside her. Adlai Stevenson supporters. Men hold a poster with a large question mark on it with the names of various candidates all around the question mark.
