Shaky, jumpy, rolling, light in contrast and imagery A terrific temblor razes this departmental capital during a religious procession in honor of the community's patron saint, bringing death to more than two hundred fifty persons and causing injuries to countless others. Ancient buildings are demolished or weakened to such an extent that they collapse a day later. Rescue workers rush from the national capital at San Salvador to bring medical aid and food supplies to survivors. The disaster strikes a severe blow at one of the most populous and prosperous regions of Central America.
