Steel workers quit their jobs and picket lines are thrown up on the heels of the historic decision." Commerce Secretary Charles Sawyer sits at a desk, looking seriously at a document. Men walk up courthouse steps. Judge David Pine, in robes, sits and looks at papers at his desk. Men picket with signs; striking workers block the path of cars.

Large stores are shelters, and streets are quickly emptied of pedestrians, until the all-clear sounds." A few street scenes with pedestrians and medium auto traffic; everyday life in a city. Sign directing people to bomb shelter. Civil defense workers (one arm band shown) direct orderly citizens into the shelter. A few scenes of almost empty strets, only a few people still scurrying to get to a shelter. After the drill, people come out of a bank building (could pass for end of business day on a cloudy day), pedestrians walk along sidewalk.

Scenes of desolation follow the flash floods that washed away homes and caused untold injuries and death. Damage and destruction from mudslides (landslides), homes ripped apart, etc. Men (rescue workers, look like civilians) help a woman climb down a ladder from an upper-story window. Various shots of cleanup efforts; mud is splattered even inside homes.

News in Brief: Indo-China, Fire Guts Native Quarter. Flames fanned by strong winds race through a native quarter in Saigon, and firemen are powerless to cope with the rampaging inferno. Hundreds of thatched-roof buildings are leveled and thousands flee for their lives. Firefighters try to do what they can but the homes are of course entirely flammable. Frightening shot of children climbing up onto a thatched roof, smoke billowing from other buildings behind them. Sad.

Then comes the blinding flash of a nuclear explosion; mushroom cloud forms. The Marines - poor, unprotected human guinea pigs - advance in the direction of the nuclear radiation in this exercise.

Swimsuit models walk along outdoor runway in one-piece bathing costumes; well-dressed, mostly female audience applauds. Young woman models old-fashioned type swimsuit that covers her whole legs. Female model removes two layers of skirts to get down to her swim suit. Two women show off two piece suits (which don't look like they're two-piece). Two models wear bathing suits with ruffled top/bra areas; they remove their matching skirts. Typical voyeuristic male narration.

Sports: French Soccer. There is fast action in the French soccer finals as players compete for the right to go to the Olympics this summer in Finland. French President Vincent Auriol watches from the stands, looking quite anxious, then relieved and pleased after a goal (goal shown in slow-motion). High angle and ground-level shots are shown; several goals are scored on both ends of the field.

Aviation in the News: Very Versatile Vehicle. A versatile vehicle, at home on land or in the air, sheds its wings upon landing and then drives off into city traffic. It's got everything, even a pretty girl along for the ride. Small plane (it's called the "Airphibian") lands on runway, taxis. People remove the wings and the propeller. Funny-looking, unusual car drives along; it's a convertible, so they drive along in traffic with the top down.

Aviation in the News: Helicopter Gets Nod. The first transport helicopter certified by the CAA for regular scheduled airline takes off at the Sikorsky plant and goes through its amazing paces for the newsreel cameras. Inventor/designer/aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky receives a certificate, shakes someone's hand. Various shots of Sikorsky helicopter spinning in circles (scary!), flying about. Pretty cool.

Swank new styles for play and for evening wear designed by artists from two continents, are alluringly displayed by pretty models in the 2nd international fashion revue. Runway models show off evening gowns with very full skirts, lots of fabric (post-war prosperity). Women models suit with long skirt. A funny two-piece suit with short plaid or tartan pants, somewhere between shorts and capri length. Bermuda shorts.

The $50,000 fairyland is an ingenious children s' zoo, and do the small fry love it! Families tour the attractions that feature the subjects of various children's stories, etc.

French Fashion Figures.
French Fashion Figures. Paris in the spring spurs the couturiers to some efforts that give milady's figure the full French treatment. Women model fashions outdoors in a lovely park. One woman wears a dress in white pique, black satin jacket, large felt hat, and large faux pearls or large white beads tight around the neck. More dresses - some seem to have skirts made of chiffon or similar material - very light material, feminine. Also some interesting hats - one wide-brimmed straw hat, and a small hat with short veil over one model's eyes. Many of the women wear elbow-length gloves.

Jeepers Creepers! Jeepers but no creepers are these jeep jockeys who dash around the ridges. It takes a good man to stick under these conditions. Off-road racing in jeeps; flying up over hills, fording streams, crushing small tress, struggling in mud. Muddy man kisses woman, leaving her laughing, with a muddy face. Looks like fun (the race, that is).

Sports: Badminton Championships. In the All-England badminton championships a Malayan team is pitted against a Danish pair and the Malayans return home with their title intact, after lightning fast action. Mixed doubles.

Sports: Basketball Champs. When the chips are down for the coveted double-A crown Kansas Jayhawks top the Brooklyn St. John's in tidy fashion. At University of Washington in Seattle, it's the NCAA championships. Various shots of this college game; it's old-school ball, no dunks, a lot of passing. One player driving down the court has the ball knocked away, and then several different players take turns scrambling and trying to recover it; the opposing team finally does get it, and as they drive toward the basket there's a foul. The free-throw shot (foul shot) is granny style (underhand, from between the legs!) but hey, it works.

Sports: Skating Queen Takes Bow. 19-Year-old Jacqueline DuBief of Paris, first French world figure skating champ, delights Radio City onlookers with an exhibition of her skating artistry. Graceful figure skating, some slightly slow motion.

News in Brief: German Circus. "Did you ever kiss a tiger? Well this trainer does and cuffs him around to boot and then twists his tail." Acrobats. Clown (no makeup) pantomimes going down stairs then up stairs. VS audience applauding. Man dressed like Tarzan kisses tiger, then bats the tiger around the face. The man follows the tiger with a knife, as if to attack it; the trained tiger obligingly walks backwards in a circle, then finally flees when the trainer opens a cage door.
Sports: Horse Olympics.
Sports: Horse Olympics. The cream of the America's equestrians show the stuff they hope to demonstrate on the American team at the Olympics in Finland this summer. Various horses are led, tended near stable. CU smiling woman in riding hat (Marjorie Haynes?). Woman and horse demonstrate some of their equestrian skills for the camera. Male riders tackle jumps, ride through a forested area, even in water.
Sports: Maryland, Kid Clouters.
Sports: Maryland, Kid Clouters. "The five-year-old sons of Navy officers mix it with gloves that are almost as big as they are. The fellow on the receiving end looks to his corner for advice." Navy man rings bell. Little boys boxing. One keeps hitting the other, who doesn't seem to know what to do; he tries backing away, turning to his dad who pushes him right back into the match. Either funny or sad, depending on your point of view.
