ON PREVIEW TAPE # 991675 East Lake ***PERSONAL LETTER FROM RUTH Friday, July 12thDear Uncle Guy:The train ride from Fresno to LA was most comfortable. It was a very modern train, completely air conditional with a sky dome lounge car and a snack bar as well as a dining car. When I got to LA, I had a three hour wait which was spent standing in line to get my ticket to Riverside and calling Ruth. She met me at 12:30 and took me home where the three of us sat up for two hours drinking coffee while I told them about our trip. While we were away, the girls had purchased an eighteen foot wide, three feet deep swimming pool which is installed in the Patio and yesterday I was in my bathing suit all the time I wasn't getting my year sorted out and put in order. It was delightful--even a moonlit swim before going to bed.I'm waitning for a confirmation on my reservation for either Wed. July 17th or Thursday, July 18th. (PAGE ONE OF FOUR)
ON PREVIEW TAPE # 991675 PERSONAL LETTER FROM RUTH (cont)Either day, I take a helicopter at 5:30 pm to LA, and get on a United flight at 9:30 pm and arrive in Cleveland at 9:30 am. I called home last night and talked to Mother & Daddy. Everything is going smoothly at home, and they were both so pleased I had been able to have such a wonderful trip with you. Both Ruth & Vi were enthralled with my account of the country we went through and were green-eyed with envy. The " Starr's Guide to the John Muir Trail" is sort of hard to figure out, but on the train I made an outline of our trip and looked up mileage and altitudes as well as I could. I'm sending what I figured out in hopes it can help you in doing the same. I doubt if it is too accurate.Thank you, Uncle Guy, for another wonderful ten days. They will be a treasured memory the rest of my life. Lots of Love, Ruth(PAGE TWO OF FOUR)
